What do you do for the City?
I teach 11th and 12 grade.

How did you get involved in teaching?
I raised six kids. I didn’t have a foster home - for various reasons they just all moved into my family. I was raising my kids and after they graduated from high school I went back to school and got my degree and credential.

What do you like best about teaching?
I used to work at other jobs - the phone company, the bank. I would wake up with a little tickle in my throat and take three days off because I didn’t want to go to work. Now I wake up every day and I can’t wait to be in class with my students.

When was the last time you did some business with HSS?
Never! I signed up for my benefits years ago. I haven’t changed my plan so that was that. It’s so effortless. I know people who work for other industries and they just struggle with how hard everything is.
