I am grateful for living and working in San Francisco where I can be openly gay and not face discrimination. I am also grateful for my Union and their great negotiating skills! Finally, I am grateful for being able to ignore the people above me and proceed to perform the best I can at work. I hope you are all grateful for my honesty.

Oh, I am very grateful for my health and general well being. Then, on the side, I am a nature-lover, and have been monitoring the progress of a family of grebes (duck-like birds) on a lake in Golden Gate Park. I discovered the six baby fluffy chicks on Labor Day. Every weekend after I would see a few of them, but young duck-like birds tend to be fodder for other predators, and I was sure at least a couple had been morsels for something else. Then yesterday, two full months later, there theyall were in the late afternoon sun--six nearly grown grebes. They have all survived, and for that, on a suddenly sunny afternoon, I felt truly grateful.
