Coordination with Medicare does not seem to work well even after repeated appeals to HSS itself.

I can pick my own physician. But - premiums are up. Why? The doctor that has been treating me for the last ten years dropped out. Why?

I can choose the Dr. I wanted. Worldwide coverage. One has to be able to be your own health advocate. In that regard a plan does nothing for you. THe City Plan reimbursement process is ponderous and unreliable.

With two very young children it is comforting to have coverage that is amongst the best-regarded both regionally & nationally. I would like more details on a much more timely basis from the insurer about what costs have been covered and what costs I will need to pay.

Freedom to choose my doctors. However, we have been dumped by two doctors who were unhappy with their reimbursement, and we have had great difficulty finding replacements, because UHC's website is so poorly maintained. In once case, I learned that a doctor listed online as practicing at UCSF had been gone for seven years.

Very friendly health care personnel. Very knowledgeable doctors. Doctors seemed overbooked and would be late getting to appointments.

I like the ability to pick the doctor. I don't like the cost. Also, while having a choice of doctor is good, it's no guarantee. This year I had problem with my right foot and I saw two foot specialists that could not determine the exact cause of the problem. I had several examinations and x-rays, but could not determine my problems.

I feel more in charge of my health care decisions than I ever felt with an HMO.

I loved being able to "follow" my Physician's Assistant from one group practice to another, so that I could maintain my own "continuity of care." I pay for flexibility and some convenience. It's more expensive, but, since I can afford it right now, it really is "insurance" in case I get seriously sick -- b/c if that happens, don't want who I choose as doctors and specialists to be so difficult as they can be under HMOs.

Wide coverage among SF physicians and hospitals. It's a PPO plan, so be prepared to receive a stack of bills and wade through tons of paperwork to get all the claims resolved. There was a situation where United Health paid the MD its contractual fee, but the MD claimed they didn't have a contract with UH expected me to pay the difference between the full charge and the UH reimbursement. I got stuck in the middle of this dispute.

Informative Dr. But UHC has repetedly said that a cost wasn't covered when it was.

they have processed my claims INCORRECTLY CONSTANTLY!

I like being able to keep my relationship with my primary care physician who has been treating me since 1967. I like being able to choose the physicians who will treat me with input in selecting them from my primary care physician.

UHC is so bureaucratic it usually takes 3 calls to straighten out claims. I don't want to deal with corporations that treat humans this way. San Francisco can and should do better for it's employees and citizens.

medical service my family & I recieved was fine. after I was able to see my original family doctor of 12 yrs. again. But I pay way too high of a family deductable

I was happy to receive reimbursement for physical therapy and acupuncture services. City Plan is beneficial to those who have physical therapy or chiropractic services that are reimbursed at 50% for a long term period. Otherwise an HMO would be the better choice. Many of my doctors dropped out of my health plan as they were very dissatisfied.

I liked choosing my physicians. I would have liked my naturopathic physician's services to be covered. Naturopaths are licensed physicians in Oregon and the alternative care benefit should apply to them but it was denied.

Free choice of physician. Accurate billing. Efficient prescription program.
December 29, 2007
I was able to change my primary physician. Medicare decides what kind of care I get not the health plan. if Medicare doesn't pay for a service the Health Plan will not pay either. I feel the Medical Business is very inefficient and overloaded with bureaucracy. Most doctors don't use computers to keep patients records. They work the same way they did 50 years ago.

I like the doctors I picked. Too many claims errors.

Doctors seemed to really know what they are doing. fabulouse Physical therapist. I like that I can use UHC anywhere I go. Their customer service people on the phones are great. But I don't trust UHC's nurse line. They sound like they don't really know what they are talking about.

My doctor really seems to care about me as an individual and shows interest in me as a healthy person. I think City Plan is low cost and works well.
