My PCP is very supportive, excellent bedside manner, takes the time to explain issues, takes my concerns seriously, very thorough. Her office staff are very kind and helpful. I have been able to be seen as needed, with very good response time.

Good pediatrition for our son. Why is the monthly cost increasing for Blue Shield coverage (with 2 or more dependents). Is our coverage going to increase this much every year.

I like most physicians I have seen. To have your primary care physician as a "gatekeeper" for the referral to specialist results in treatment delays and unnecessary visits. My physician did not prescribe the adequate medication dosage for my condition and as a result I spent a three day-weekend in excruciating pain. Since you have to go through your primary care doctor to see another doctor, then you are limited and basically at this physician mercy before receiving treatment.

The doctors were patient in explaining conditions and answering questions. Highly recommended; appointments were easy to schedule and accommodating.

I'd like to be able to get an appointment quicker. Too long of wait in the doctor office.

Electronic records by new PCP. No RX papers, no referrel forms, no lab slip, less errors. It is my understanding I will be able to e-mail him, soon, for better access. Excellent care (and cost effective) by out of area, Blue Shield provider in LA. Lost PCP of ten years. He could not continue to afford to practice. Reimbursement rates flat at a time when insurance (patient's insurance) rates keep going up. How long delays (more than four weeks) see two specialists. It would appear all physicians have cut back on staff or have shared staff with other physicians which causes problems getting access to physician, having calls answered and returned. This is not just a "Blue Shield" problem. I would say only Kaiser has modern system. "Access" and communication issue need to be addressed. I work as Paramedic and had severe problems this year. I can't picture what a non-medical person goes through to get no only care, but the right care, when needed.

I was able to keep my same doctors. You may have a co-payment for some test taken. I did.

I liked the weekend appointments from my doctor.

My primary physician prescribed Zostavax (vaccination to prevent shingles), but primary does not stock it, so I went to the Central Pharmacy where a certified pharmacist injected it. BS+ denied it as a medical benefit b/c it wasn't administered by my primary in-office. BS+ then denied it as a drug benefit. I appealed on the basis that my primary thinks I'm a good candidate, I'm within the age range, I was required to obtain it out-of-office because of the nature of storage of the injectable. Upon appeal, BS+ reimbursed my out-of-pocket for the injectable cost plus interest. I am delighted; however, I do suggest that CCSF make i clear to BS+ that CCSF members should not have to go to appeal to obtain a basic preventive care medical benefit just because most primary physicians are unable to stock this delicate injectable.

Low copayments, good service. I didn't go much to the doctor the past year.
January 7, 2008
I like the ability to change doctors quickly. There should be greater preventive medical care.
January 6, 2008
Specialists have been extraordinary. PCP Office impossible to deal with. Pharmacy coverage more difficult. HSS should have standards of office practice they insist on.
January 4, 2008
I like my primary physican. There should be more information about acupuncture benefit.

I appreciate the high quality of the services that I received. I was pleased with the calls I received from my doctor to take advantage of someone else's cancelled appointment for routine services. Shorten the wait for routine appointents for exams.

Work more on preventive, provide incentive for people who exercises frequently

I like ease of referral to a specialist in my group. 'm very pleased with my Medical Group. They are responsive to my requests and have an excellent panel of doctors. I dislike the length of time to get a routine appointment.

Like availability of specialty care such as Chiropractic Services. I wish for more options for self referral to alternative medicines (Homeopathy etc.) So far I happy with overall care provided by Blue Shield.

Blue Shield appears to be a good plan on the surface. However, they have terrible customer service and do not return phone calls or handle appeals in a timely manner. I wish the City Plan PPO was more affordable.
January 2, 2008
I am able to ask questions & have them answered in a way that was not condecending or judgmental by my doctor or other office staff. I wish I did not have to wait on "hold" so long when calling into my doctor's office. This is my first experience with Blue Shield ins. and so far I have been quite satisfied with the service received.
January 2, 2008
I am able to talk to a health professional on the phone about my medical condition so they can assess the urgency. i wish i can make an appointment to see a doctor in less than a week of time. most of the case, the wait is more than 2 wks for an appointment.

Authorizations and other adminsitrative procesedures. I have had the dr with my last three insurance plans. (all different companies). BLUE SHield has been administratively difficult - they verbally aproved a procedure to our dr staff and then sent us a letter denying coverage. that is not ok.
January 2, 2008
was correctly diagnosed and treated for pneumonia; wait time for urgent care was a bit long. I would recommend Blue Shield.
January 2, 2008
My Internist is great. I am always able to see her or contact her any time. Other doctors, such as my eye doctor had a very long waiting period--2 months or longer.
January 2, 2008
only my specialists were really good about preventive care and health screenings. My primary doctor was kind of rushed on my annual exam. Primary doctore needs to give more thorough annual exams.

I was hospitalized for about 4 days in 2007. I received excellant care and all my treatments/care in the hospital were covered. It was a great relief to have my hospitalization covered and to have access to an excellant hospital during my emergency stay. There are very few acupuncturists and chiropractors to chose from. I did see a chiropractor within Blue Shield but he was fresh out of school and not very experienced. He ended up making my condition worse.
